The Mary Magdalene Spirituality Center works to foster transformation, institutionally and personally, in all whose lives are rooted and grounded in the love of Christ. There is also a special call to foster and equip women’s leadership, particularly in sacramental ministry. The special recipients of attention are those in our community who feel broken and are in need of healing and those who have not yet encountered the Risen Christ.

Charisms

The Mary Magdalene Spirituality Center is an inclusive Catholic faith community based on the heart-centered charism of St. Mary Magdalene (also known as Mary of Magdala).  Called the Apostle to the Apostles, Mary Magdalene was part of the original following crowd of Jesus Christ.  She kept vigil at the cross.  She was the first person to whom the Risen Christ appeared and was commanded by Him to go and tell the others of His resurrection. She kept His words in her heart throughout her lifetime and that remembrance was accompanied by action. Her special mission was to preach about God’s liberating mercy.

Features of her charism are:

  • Representation of living on the margin of what has been and what is emerging.

  • Encountering Christ in our lives and in the world.

  • Announcement of the Good News of new life everywhere possible by prayer and action.

  • Belief that God is beyond categories, beyond masculine and feminine, and that the power of the Divine is accessible to all.

  • Life on the margin of the mainstream Roman Catholic Church in order to honor the traditions but to live out the reforms hoped for in the institution.

  • Seeking out those not reached by the existing Church and those who have turned away.
